Off-Season On-Ice Skills and Conditioning

Acceleration Programs

Good skating and skating fitness are essential for hockey success. The Peak Acceleration program is designed to help young skaters improve their skating ability and build speed and on ice fitness. Using age and developmentally appropriate skating drills and progressions, built around the work and rest ratios common to hockey, players are challenged in all aspects of their skating. Small group work with 4-5 skaters per coach means that your child will receive individual attention and correction that is unmatched in other programs. Pre and post program on ice speed and agility testing will help athletes and parents gauge their improvement and assess strengths and weaknesses.

Semi-Private Shooting, Scoring and Puck Skills

Peak Centre is pleased to announce the launch of our Semi Private Shooting/Scoring and Puck Skill program. Each session focuses on the process and underlying skills of shooting, scoring and puck handling rather than focusing solely on outcome. This approach is a more effect means of teaching that helps a player understand their game, strengths and weaknesses, providing them with the skills and knowledge to analyze their game and make corrections. By repeating corrected movements and utilizing cognitive training techniques as well as small area skills manipulation each player will develop the scoring skills needed to become an elite player.

Speed, Agility, Acceleration

In a typical hockey shift a player will experience 3-4 bursts of hard skating that last 2-3 seconds at a time. Players with the ability to reach top speed in a short period of time have a definite advantage over their opponents. Using cutting edge training techniques like over speed training, post activation potentiation, assisted and resisted sprinting and anaerobic alactic conditioning this session is designed to improve first step quickness, acceleration, top end speed and speed endurance. By employing equipment typically used in dry land sessions, speed chutes, hurdles etc., on the ice we are able to continually change up the stimulus the athlete receives and ensure their continued progress. On ice speed and agility testing will be done in the first session and repeated at the end of the program so that athletes can see how much they have improved.

The Peak Centre is now offering a semi-private detailed skating development program. Our master skating coach Pat Malloy will discuss and drill key positions and changes that need to be made in order to accelerate your game and help correct technical errors.
