1. What is a fitness assessment?
A fitness assessment is a method of measuring your body's specific response to exercise; it represents a snapshot of your current level of fitness.
2. Are there different types of assessments?
Yes, there are two classes of fitness assessments, indirect and direct. Indirect assessments use predictive measures and equations to estimate your fitness level. A good example can be seen in the heart rate and perceived exertion charts displayed in most health clubs. These types of assessments provide no direct information regarding your current individual fitness level, and also fail to track fitness improvements over time. At the PEAK Centre, we offer only direct assessments to measure your individual response to exercise. These assessments precisely determine your current level of fitness, as well as allow us to track your rate of training improvement over time. Each analysis is specific to the individual and how their body responds to exercise.

The information obtained from an assessment is important if you are trying to: Lose body fat Improve a sport performance Improve cardiovascular fitness
4. What does a direct fitness assessment measure?
The assessments conducted at our facility allow us to "look" into your body at different levels of exercise. At each level we can "see" your: Aerobic fitness; Heart rate response; Lactic acid response; Amount of calories used at each level; Anaerobic fitness.
5. Why would I need a fitness assessment?
By "looking" inside and measuring your individual physiology, you can: Eliminate guesswork from your training by knowing the EXACT level at which you need to exercise to achieve your goals. Optimize your training time. Track training adaptations over time.
6. I'm not in shape, should I get into shape before my assessment?
No. By measuring your current level of fitness now, you can maximize the results of your training time right from the start; whether you are in shape or not.
7. Can I pass or fail?
No! These assessments are not tests; there is no pass or fail. The information obtained is used only to help you get the most from your training.
8. Who will explain what my results mean?
Our knowledgeable exercise physiologists have over 15 years combined experience analyzing and interpreting assessment results. Included with each assessment is a post-assessment consultation that is both informative and interactive.
9. How do I use this information for my training?
