Fitness Testing

Human Performance Lab

The physiology lab is the cornerstone of the Peak Centre for Human Performance. Using state of the art laboratory equipment our testing protocols we develop a complete sport specific fitness profile in a controlled environment. Using a controlled environment and tightly controlled test protocols allows us to determine the underlying physical strengths and weaknesses without the influence of skill, strategy or psychology that often affects less controlled performance tests. Armed with the knowledge of each athlete’s individual physiology we can develop targeted training plans to create the maximum training effect in the shortest time. We offer a full line of physiological tests including:

  • VO2 max
  • Lactate threshold
  • Power/Speed at VO2 max
  • Aerobic threshold Assessment
  • Body composition
  • Strength/Power Profile Assessments
  • Vertical Jump Power
  • Ground Reaction/Agility Power
  • Movement Screens
  • Flexibility matrix testing
  • Anaerobic Power
  • Anaerobic Endurance
  • Lactate Recovery
  • Sprint Speed
  • Running or Cycling Efficiency Testing

Biomechanics Lab

At the a Peak Centre we realize that physiology is not the only component of an athlete’s preparation, proper equipment set up and skill allow an athlete to fully express and use their fitness for optimal performance. For this reason we offer a range of biomechanical and skill development programs and services. All our technique and biomechanical services use the latest in video analysis technology and computer technology to help diagnose specific areas that need attention. With our expertise in both biomechanics and physiology we are the only Centre in the region that can offer detailed corrective programs. With follow up physiological testing we can assess if the biomechanical changes that you have made are working and making you a more efficient athlete. The biomechanical services we offer include:

  • Dynamic Bike Fit
  • Skating Analysis
  • Running or Walking Gait Analysis
  • Swimming Stroke Analysis
  • Weight Training Technique Assessment
  •  Movement Screening
  • Time motion analysis studies
  • Occupational biomechanics
  • Workplace ergonomics

Nutrition Lab

A well designed nutrition program can be the difference between achieving your best performances and wasting a lot of training time. The Peak Centre for Human Performance Nutritional testing program has three components:

1. Dietary Analysis

Based on the analysis of a food diary, the dietary analysis provides a detailed breakdown of the calories, carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals that you consume each day.

2. Metabolic Efficiency Testing

Resting and exercising metabolic rate are measured to determine energy output for various intensities of training. Measures of fat and carbohydrate metabolism are determined so that individualized training and race refueling strategies can be developed.

3. Blood Chemistry Profiling

Blood chemistry profiles measure blood parameters like hemoglobin, hematocrit, Red cell count, white cell count, ferritin, and various hormones important to performance. With this information individualized nutrition and supplementation programs are developed to keep your body working at optimal levels for your sport.
