Peewee / Bantam - Train to Train (Boys 12-16, Girls 11-15)

Athletes in our ‘Train to Train’ program will work on building an aerobic base and consolidate their sport-specific skills. Towards the end of the stage, they will focus on strength and the anaerobic alactic energy system. Increased training hours are needed at this stage to develop each athlete’s long-term potential.  At this stage, athletes are ready to consolidate their basic sport-specific skills and tactics. It is also a major fitness development stage.

Additional Months:

  • $100.00 per month (March,April)

Acceleration - Novice/Atom

Good skating and skating fitness are essential for hockey success. The Peak Acceleration program is designed to help young skaters improve their skating ability and build speed and on-ice fitness. Using age and developmentally appropriate skating drills and progressions, built around the work and rest ratios common to hockey, players are challenged in all aspects of their skating. Small groupings of 4-5 skaters per coach means that your child will receive individual attention and correction that is unmatched in other power skating programs.

Suitable for:

Any/all competitively inclined players prepared to dramatically increase their skating fundamentals and execution (sessions available for ages 7-14).

Bantam/Midget Goalie Skills: GLV3 (Goalie Level 3)

Skill Development:

  • Butterfly slide with recovery
  • backdoor push
  • save while skating
  • short rebound recovery
  • VH plus recovery
  • behind net situations
  • reverse direction recovery
  • playing puck outside of the crease

Training Process:

At the LV3 phase, goalies will apply techniques to a game environment and multiple save movements. While maintaining a balanced simple approach to each situations, goalies develop a "no hesitation" mentality ensuring automatic proper responses to reactive situations.

Previously established techniques are reinforced and built upon while continuing to develop the balance and body positioning required to react appropriately to any situation. This is an important level of development because not only are we addressing "what" to do, and "how" to do it, but also "where" and "when" it should be applied. After having comfortably trained at the LV3 level we encourage goaltenders to implement the mental aspect of their training to each learned situation.

Novice/Atom Goalie Skills: GLV1 (Goalie Level 1)

Skill Development

  • Linear skating abilities
  • basic stance
  • knowledge of GSSM*
  • body positioning and awareness
  • balance
  • basic butterfly and use of stick
  • simple glove movements
  • puck focus

Training Process:

CGD compartmentalizes skills and then teaches them step by individual step to ensure each aspect of the movement is learned properly. Drills are designed with single, predetermined shot placements allowing the goalie to connect the proper movement to each save situation.

At this level of development it is important that goal tenders are in a positive learning environment, prior to engaging in extreme competitive situations. It is crucial for new goalies to make the connection between learning, practice, positive outcomes, and "fun" results. Our GLV1 program will establish the basic foundations of goaltending in a constructive, enjoyable atmosphere.

Peewee Goalie Skills: GLV2 (Goalie Level 2)

Skill Development

  • GSSM, depth, zone awareness
  • lateral butterfly slide
  • glove movements
  • recovery mechanics
  • post play
  • body shots
  • static pivot preslide
  • puck focus and control

Training Process:

After establishing the foundation of proper balance and starting positions, goaltenders will now continue development on this solid platform. In the LV2 phase, goalies begin making saves laterally and reinforcing the recovery process and puck focus into and out of the save. We also address play behind the goal line, and proper post position technique.

In addition to single shot saves, goalies will be pushed to be aware of rebounds and initiate the recovery process without hesitation with the proper leg. At the LV2 phase, repetition is increased to establish proper habits. New skills are broken down and taught step by step, but are reinforced with more urgency and accuracy.

Shooting, Scoring and Puck Skills - Bantam/Midget

Peak Centre’s Semi Private Shooting/Scoring and Puck Skill program is a must for any player looking to enhance their offensive abilities. Each session focuses on the process and underlying skills of shooting, scoring and puck handling rather than focusing solely on outcome. This approach is a more effective means of teaching which helps a player understand their game, strengths and weaknesses; providing them with the skills and knowledge to analyze their game and make corrections. By repeating corrected movements and utilizing cognitive training techniques as well as small area skills manipulation each player will develop the scoring skills needed to become an elite player.

Suitable for:

Any/all competitively inclined players prepared to increase their dynamic puck handling ability and scoring aptitude (sessions available for ages 7-17).

Shooting, Scoring and Puck Skills - Major Atom/Peewee

Speed, Agility, Acceleration (SAA) - Bantam/Midget

Everyone knows that there is no dryland or workout regime that can truly prepare you for all the challenges of hockey game quite like being on the ice. Hockey training programs do their best to imitate motions and strengthen areas specific to the game of hockey, but nothing can account for the variables that equipment and the playing surface provide.

SAA is an intensive 50 minute on ice program where players will be constantly challenged through a high octane circuit workout. Bungees, parachutes, ropes, med balls, hurdles, tackle pads, weighted pucks and are just some of the specialty gym equipment used to help challenge and propel your on-ice workout to the next level.

In a typical hockey shift a player will experience 3-4 bursts of hard skating that last 2-3 seconds at a time. Players with the ability to reach top speed in a short period of time have a definite advantage over their opponents. Using cutting edge training techniques like over speed training, post activation potentiation, assisted and resisted sprinting and anaerobic alactic conditioning this session is designed to improve first step quickness, acceleration, top end speed and speed endurance.

Suitable For:

Any/all competitively inclined players prepared to increase their on-ice agility and evasiveness (sessions available for ages 11-20)

WEEK 1: Jul 29th - Aug 2nd - Atom / Minor Peewee Powerskating - *HALF DAY AM

Peak Centre has recognized that skating technique is a very crucial aspect in the game of hockey- especially during a player’s developmental years. Often, a player’s skating ability is compromised by small mechanical errors in their stride, body position and movement sequences. These errors rarely get noticed or corrected by the individual or their coaches, and the result is a player who is physically limited by something that could be easily corrected. 2 hours of on-ice instruction will help to improve your skating ability by correcting any limiting factors and performing drills specifically designed to improve all areas of skating. As well, 1 hour of dryland training will help target muscles and movements to help compliment the on-ice instruction.
